Description: This limited edition print shows the 54' Sparkman & Stephens yawl sailing comfortably through a windswept sea under an ominous sky. An experience every sailor dreams of.

Artist Profile: John Marcy Mecray was born on February 13, 1937, and raised in Cape May, New Jersey. In 1954 he was accepted at the Philadelphia College of Art. After his third year at PCA he fulfilled his military obligation and spent two and a half years in the US Army in Germany. After his tour he returned to art college, graduating in 1961. After working as an illustrator in Philadelphia until the early 1970’s, he and his wife, son, and daughter moved to Newport, Rhode Island to pursue a full time career in marine painting. By 1976-77 his few paintings of the America’s Cup Races had drawn national attention, and Ted Turner commissioned a painting of Courageous. From there his works continued.

In 1978 the Mystic Seaport Museum Store became the publisher of Mecray’s limited edition prints. In 1987 Mecray took over the publishing of the prints, and Mystic Seaport remained the distributer.

Since 1976 forty-six limited edition prints have been published, of which several have been sold out for years.
